Research Interests
Neurogenesis
Neurological disorders (e.g., Autism spectrum disorder, Fragile X syndrome and Stroke)
Dr. Li is broadly interested in regenerative medicine, neurorehabilitation, drug discovery and neural stem cell biology for the study of human mental and intellectual disorders. He employs a combination of genetics, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, bioinformatics, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, multi-electrode array, molecular imaging, micromanipulation and behavioral methods to understand the molecular mechanisms that regulate neural stem cells and neurodevelopment with the goal of applying this knowledge in the rehabilitative treatment of human neurological disorders such as Autism spectrum disorder, Fragile X syndrome and Stroke.
Dr. Li (co-) supervised more than 20 under- and postgraduate students. Three undergraduate students received the prestigious Hilldale Fellowship and Waisman Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research award, respectively (2016, 2017, 2018) in USA. One Ph.D. student was awarded a prestigious Wisconsin Distinguished Graduate Fellowship (2019) in USA. Two graduate students were awarded highly competitive National Scholarship (2021, 2022) in China.
There are available positions for postdoctoral fellows and graduate students who are interested in neurobiology, pharmacology of Chinese Medicine and drug discovery. Ideal candidates are highly motivated, organized, and have extensive laboratory experience. The postdoctoral fellows will work on several exciting projects. The lab accepts the students from a variety of disciplines. For further information, please contact Dr. Li at KevinyLi@um.edu.mo
