A delegation led by Professor Pan Tingrui, a Chair Professor of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and the Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research, recently visited the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) of University of Macau (UM) to foster the collaborative research tactile sensing technology, digital microfluidics, wearable health and personalized medicine for Traditional Medicine among others. The delegation was warmly received by Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences Director Chen Xin. Representatives from both parties had in-depth discussions how science and technology can be better employed in evidence base development about Traditional Chinese Medicine, and how the collaborative work in research and postgraduate training can be strengthened to better facilitate knowledge transfer and translational research. Both parties also exchanged experiences and ideas in University–Industry innovation collaboration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
During the delegation visit, Professor Pan delivered a seminar of ‘Roadmap of Emerging Medical Devices for USTC Suzhou’ to ICMS professors, researchers and students. With the “New Medicine and New Engineering” imitative, the Center of Intelligent Medical Equipment and Devices (iMED) was established by USTC Suzhou and focused on frontier research topics in Medical Wearable and Digital Medicine, Interventional Device and Surgical AI, and BioChips and Organ Engineering, and their applications in various therapeutic areas such as Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Cardiovascular, Neurology, Intensive Care and Assisted Reproduction. Professor Pan also discussed with the participants in how to better transfer the academic knowledge to industry level.
Also, the delegation visited the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (SKLQRCM), including laboratories from extraction and purification to pharmaceutical and spectrometric analysis for Traditional Chinese Medicine, Centre for Chinese Medicine scanning and Macao Centre for Research and Development in Chinese Medicine. Professor Chou Chon Kit introduced the fruitful research achievements of ICMS and SKL-QRCM. The delegation appreciated the ICMS research direction of the Traditional Chinese Medicine research in modern and scientific way and the laboratory’s work on standardization and internationalization of Chinese Medicine. Both parties also exchange experiences and ideas in cell receptor response mechanism from Traditional Chinese Medicine and Biomedical Engineering perspectives in immune checkpoint proteins towards canner.
