To strengthen talent cultivation and scientific research cooperation in the field of synthetic biology of traditional Chinese medicine, the Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) at the University of Macau (UM) and the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (TIB), launched a joint doctoral training program in 2023. The program coordinators and supervisors of all jointly trained doctoral students from both sides convened an online exchange meeting on October 9. This meeting focused on how to enhance joint doctoral education and management, and improve collaboration in traditional Chinese medicine. Both parties agreed to hold regular joint exchange meetings to closely track students’ research progress, deepen cooperation, enhance the joint doctoral education through mutual advantages, and collectively advance the cultivation of high-end scientific research talents in the field of synthetic biology of traditional Chinese medicine.

This year, ICMS and TIB have established the “Joint Laboratory of Synthetic Biology of Traditional Chinese Medicine” to facilitate collaborative research and development, scientific personnel exchange, talent cultivation, and technology transfer. This joint endeavor is aimed at expediting the advancement and innovation of traditional Chinese medicine industry technologies and enriching the training of young scientific and technological talents.
