Prof. Dennis CHANG, Director of NICM Health Research Institute and Professor of Pharmacology Research at Western Sydney University, and Dr. Phoebe ZHOU, International Engagement Coordinator of the NICM Health Research Institute, visited University of Macau (UM) Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) on 30 Oct 2023. They were warmly received by ICMS Director Xin CHEN and a team of principal investigators.
Prof. CHEN presented to the guests about the progress and accomplishments of ICMS and the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (SKLQRCM). The delegation also visited the laboratories and core facilities in ICMS. The delegation appreciated the ICMS’s modern and scientific research approach towards R&D of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in particular on the quality control and preclinical studies which are deemed essential for the successful translation of TCM products and internationalization of Chinese Medicine.
Western Sydney University’s National Institute of Complementary Medicine (NICM) is Australia’s leader in integrative and complementary medicine research and policy. NICM is globally recognized for its world-class research and innovations in integrative and complementary medicine. The Institute’s research includes clinical trials, laboratory testing, and policy work, and is heavily involved in an expanding program of postgraduate studies specializing in areas such as cardiovascular and metabolic health, neurocognitive and mental health, cancer management and recovery, and immunity and inflammation, among others.
Both parties exchanged experiences and ideas in research, teaching and learning to discuss potential areas of cooperation and partnership. The visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to strengthen their ties and explore avenues for future collaborations.
