Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute (ZUMRI) and Guangxi Liuyao Group Co Ltd today (5 July) held a plaque unveiling ceremony for their joint laboratory, which marked the strategic cooperation between ZUMRI and Liuyao Group in the research, development, and commercialisation of Chinese medicine. The two parties will work together to accelerate the technological progress of the Chinese medicine industry, promote the upgrading of the industrial structure, and contribute to the development of the Chinese medicine industry in Macao and the development of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
Chen Xin, director of UM’s Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences and interim director of the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (SKL-QRCM), said that the establishment of the joint laboratory will strengthen the supporting and leading role of the Cooperation Zone in medical technology development and opening-up of the country, which will enable more practitioners in science and technology from Guangdong and Macao to be involved in the country’s strategic development. Wang Chunming, interim director of UM’s Research Services and Knowledge Transfer Office and deputy director of ZUMRI, said that the joint laboratory will promote the organic integration of advantageous resources in the field of Chinese medicine and benefit the well-being of the general public. Zhu Chaoyang, chairman of Guangxi Liuyao Group Co Ltd, said that the establishment of the joint laboratory will promote innovative research results to empower industrial development, adding that the joint laboratory is a manifestation of the strategic cooperation between ZUMRI and Liuyao Group, which will facilitate the development of the Chinese medicine industry in Guangdong, Macao, and Guangxi and set a benchmark for industry-academia collaboration. Wang Yitao, director of the Macao Centre for Research and Development in Chinese Medicine and founding director of SKL-QRCM, said during the panel discussion and media interview that the cooperation between ZUMRI and Liuyao Group willaccelerate the technological innovation in Chinese medicine to promote the industrial diversification of Macao and the transformation and upgrading of the Chinese medicine industry, and enhance the international influence of the Chinese medicine industry.
